As we prepare to begin tobacco transplanting across North Carolina, the latest issue of Tobacco Connection: Vol. 3, No. 1 (Spring 2026 Update) includes several important updates for growers and industry professionals.

This issue highlights Jeffrey Dorfman’s recent survey results, Maggie James’ greenhouse management recommendations, and a reminder that growers can sign up for text alerts to stay up-to-date on the latest tobacco news and production updates.

We are also announcing a new database to tobacco, "Root Cause Reports," designed to track soybean, corn, and tobacco problems across North Carolina, which will help improve monitoring and response to production issues statewide.

Finally, Daisy Ahumada is requesting samples of black shank, bacterial wilt, and target spot this season. If you observe these diseases in the field, please consider submitting samples to help support ongoing research and monitoring efforts.
